imagineNATIVE 2017 How do you envision a world of change through design? Through cultural understanding and creativity. Beehive has a 14-year relationship working with ImagineNATIVE – the world’s largest annual Indigenous film and arts festival hosted in Toronto. Our awareness of the indigenous culture, and the symbolism tied closely to it, allows us to delve deep in the subject matter from a design point of view. For the festival’s 2017 campaign, we explored the concept of futurism, imagining the role the indigenous culture will play in the year of 2025. Over the recent years, society has become more conscious of the world’s current environmental state. There has been a boom in various industries selling eco-friendly products, and people changing their entire lifestyle to help make this world a better place. That’s when our vision came through – we depicted a society that was indigenized, where all environmental elements were influenced by the indigenous ways of life, specifically their environmental beliefs. For the design, we used a 3D render to build the Toronto skyline and infuse various symbols tied to the indigenous culture. Beehive was responsible for the program guide and all of the branding materials including posters, invites, and flyers. We also created a movie trailer that takes us through a spatial journey through urban and rural landscapes of the indigenized future we created.
